UPLAND detailed designed Breakhouse’s concept, produced tender documents and provided construction review and admin for the Parkette, the first phase of a striking new public landscape at Purdy’s Wharf on Halifax’s waterfront. The project will see a wharf style boardwalk extend from the existing wharf, across a new plaza between the office buildings, and across a new parkette to Upper Water Street. The parkette features new contemporary looking public space with seating areas, Cor-Ten planters, concrete seating walls and chaise lounge seating made with local Ash. The existing trees in the parkette were thinned out to create a more open, inviting and brightly lit space flanked by extensive planting beds with ‘waves’ of native perennials, grasses and shrubs. The boardwalk itself is simultaneously a sustainable urban drainage feature as the base is an infiltration bed that allows rain run off to percolate back into the ground
